Elementary, With Purpose.

A Montessori grades 1-6 elementary program built for independence, focus, and responsibility.

Montessori Elementary in Practice

Soaring Wings Montessori is a Montessori elementary school in Park City designed for children in grades 1–6 who are ready for purposeful, independent learning rooted in responsibility and curiosity.

Why Montessori Elementary Works

Montessori Elementary is designed to align with how children ages 6–12 naturally think, work, and grow.

Independence Is Developed Intentionally

Children at this age are ready for real responsibility. In Montessori Elementary, independence is built through purposeful choice, clear expectations, and meaningful work. Students learn to plan their time, manage materials, and follow work from beginning to completion—skills that build confidence and accountability.

Deep Focus Builds Strong Thinking

Elementary students need time to think deeply. Long, uninterrupted work periods allow students to concentrate, problem-solve, and engage with complex ideas without constant interruption. This sustained focus supports higher-level reasoning and genuine understanding.

Learning Is Connected to the World

Rather than teaching subjects in isolation, Montessori Elementary integrates language, mathematics, science, history, and the arts. Students explore how ideas connect and apply their learning through research, projects, and real-world experiences—making knowledge meaningful and lasting.

At Soaring Wings, these principles guide every stage of our Elementary program.

Lower Elementary (Ages 6–9)

Lower Elementary supports children as they move from concrete learning toward abstraction through guided independence and structured exploration.

Lower Elementary: Early Inquiry in Action

In Lower Elementary, children begin learning how to observe carefully, ask meaningful questions, and share what they notice about the world around them.

Through guided inquiry and hands-on exploration, students investigate nature, the arts, science, and their local environment. Projects emphasize curiosity and process over performance—helping children learn how to explain ideas clearly, listen to others, and grow confidence in their thinking.

Learning begins with noticing—patterns in nature, details in the environment, and questions worth exploring.

Upper Elementary (Ages 9–12)

Upper Elementary emphasizes planning, synthesis, collaboration, and long-term project work driven by student curiosity.

Upper Elementary: From Inquiry to Impact

As students grow, their work builds on the inquiry skills developed in Lower Elementary and moves toward sustained collaboration, planning, and real-world problem solving.

Through long-term projects and shared work, students learn to test ideas, revise their thinking, and consider how their choices affect others. These experiences introduce responsibility beyond the individual—preparing students to engage thoughtfully with their community, environment, and the world around them.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Learning at Soaring Wings doesn’t stop at the classroom door.

Students regularly extend their work into the surrounding community and natural environment through carefully prepared field studies and place-based experiences. These outings are directly connected to classroom inquiry and followed by reflection and discussion—helping students make meaning from what they observe in the real world.

Through this process, children learn to ask better questions, take responsibility for their learning, and see themselves as capable participants in the world around them.

Experience is only the beginning—understanding comes through reflection.

Place-Based Physical Education

Physical education at Soaring Wings reflects our mountain environment and the responsibilities that come with it.

Students prepare carefully, learn safety and stewardship, and build physical confidence through seasonal, place-based experiences such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, river rafting, rock climbing and camping. These experiences emphasize awareness, self-regulation, and perseverance—helping children develop confidence in their bodies while learning to care for themselves, one another, and the environment around them.

Physical confidence grows through preparation and responsibility.
