The Teacher
The Montessori teacher serves as a facilitator of learning by functioning as a designer of the environment, resource person, role model, demonstrator, record keeper, and meticulous observer of each child’s behavior and growth. The teacher in each classroom holds a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and a Montessori teaching credential. About half hold, or are working on master’s or doctoral programs. Each member of our faculty spends many hours outside of class time carefully preparing lessons and activities, considering each student’s individual needs, and choosing music and art to create just the right learning environment.
The Parents
We consider parents to be our best resource. Every parent has some skill or interest that the children would love to learn about. Talk to us about visiting our classes to teach a new skill or to discuss your job, hobby or other special interest. Parents have always been, and always will be, the child’s primary educator. Our teachers are dedicated to working with you to provide the finest educational experience possible for your child.
Teachers will speak to you briefly at drop off and pick up. They will send a class email at least once each month. Individual Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled each fall and spring in order to keep you informed of your child’s progress. See our Events and Holidays calendar for details. If you have any questions or concerns during the rest of the school year, please feel free to contact us by phone, email or after class. You can be certain that we will contact you if we have any concerns.
The Child
Another unique approach of Montessori education is the concept of preparing the classroom for the child rather than for the convenience of the teacher. You won’t find desks, blackboards, bulletin boards or teacher prepared art in a Montessori classroom. Children have the freedom to make their own choices, solve their own problems, and concentrate on their own work for as long as they need to without interference. Teachers observe, guide and challenge when appropriate. Teachers are the link between each child and the classroom environment full of didactic learning materials. Each classroom contains exercises for learning about almost everything in the Universe at an age-appropriate level. The teacher observes the student and plans to introduce each new topic at the right time. Every child learns at their own pace. It is the teacher’s job to make sure students emerge with a well-rounded education while pursuing their own interests.
The School Community
We like to bring our community of children, parents and teachers together regularly to draw on each others’ talents and celebrate our diversity. Parties, plays and special events involving the whole school give us a chance to work together and are lots of fun!
We would love to meet with you, give you a personal tour, and let you discover for yourself why a total Soaring Wings community effort makes such a difference in your child’s educational success. Contact us to schedule an appointment at your convenience. We look forward to meeting you!
We invite you and your children to drop by any school day at 10:00am, so we can give you a personal tour and discuss enrollment. An appointment is not necessary.
