The Importance of Early Childhood Education

One question often asked of us by parents is: when is my child ready for school? At Soaring Wings our answer is always the same: as soon as your child is walking independently and beginning to use and respond to verbal cues. At Soaring Wings, we strongly believe that Early Childhood Education offers children a brighter, happier future. The reasons for this are plenty and include the following:

  • A nurturing classroom environment offers many enticing activities that facilitate the child’s growth and independence.
  • The teachers are skilled at easing the transition for the new students, introducing them to the possibilities of making their own decisions and moving at their own pace.
  • Early Childhood Programs allow the child to choose from a variety of activities carefully prepared to offer experiences in large and fine motor control, discerning shapes, colors, textures, tastes, and sounds.
  • Toddlers learn to enjoy didactic materials which focus on developing independence skills such as pouring, sweeping, sponging, and buttoning.
  • The child’s confidence grows noticeably with her autonomy. He feels confident in trying something new and knows how to ask for help when he needs it.
  • The student emerges from Toddler Class with a strong sense of self.
  • The child learns responsibility for making choices, putting things away, dressing himself, and taking care of his own hygiene.
  • Toddlers explore many concepts sensorially and creatively and are ready to build upon these as well as social and academic skills in the Early Childhood Class.

Here is a complete list of the ECP’s we offer at Soaring Wings:
Early Childhood (EC) Program
(ages 3 – 5)
Monday thru Thursday or
Monday thru Friday

This three-year program allows the child to focus upon ordering her environment and to become familiar with academic concepts through concrete manipulation. This results in a love of learning which prepares the child for a lifetime of education. The typical Early Childhood graduate is fully prepared to move onto our Elementary class or into 1st grade in a traditional public or private school.

EC + Enrichment Program

We offer this program to children who are ready socially and emotionally for a longer day but not ready for the academic rigor of the elementary prep program. In the afternoon, emphasis is placed on lunch-time manners, practical life, care of self and environment, independence, number and letter recognition and penmanship.

If you’re interested in enrolling your child into an Early Childhood Program, contact us today. We are one of the few Park City schools in Utah to offer this type of schooling. As in every Montessori classroom, the entire room is designed to meet the needs of the child. Everything is safe and meant to be touched. Adults use simple, respectful language and always get down to the child’s level to communicate. Fine art and music are a part of the rich classroom experience.
