Your Relationship With Food

I love food!  I love tasting all different flavors – and I love how I feel when I am full.  I love dining at restaurants.  A nice meal out where you don’t have to make a mess in the kitchen is addicting.  Simple, easy, no clean-up.  Pay someone else to do it, and go home happy.

However, the more I cook at home, the more I appreciate knowing exactly what is going in to my family’s meals.  As a gluten-free, dairy-free, as-organic-as-possible-no-sugar family, I have realized that if I involve the entire family in this daily routine, the more enjoyable it becomes.  Today, for example, my 2-year-old daughter and I chopped fruits & vegetables to put in our smoothies – and as we stood their in our aprons, covered in mess, singing as loud as we could (because the blender was going) – I couldn’t help but think how amazing this ‘chore’ is.  My whole perspective of cooking has just recently changed – I must stop thinking of cooking as a ‘chore’ and realize that time in the kitchen can be considered the ‘family time’ I have been trying to schedule in to our weekly calendar.  And I am also teaching my daughter how to love food in a healthy way.  And that it is okay to make a mess, as long as we clean it up.
How cool is that?  She won’t learn those life skills at a restaurant.

I love food!
